Burning Man 2018

Renewing the WOWs with AWE, yet again!

Back to That Thing In The Desert.   12th time for me – 6th for Tammy Remington, my partner in life and art (AnomalyWorksNYC).

I have contributed artwork to the Center Camp Café Kiosk from 2010 to 2014. You can see the works in the “galleries” at aleXanderhirka@nyc.com .
For the last three years Tammy has collaborated with related short stories, printed in small booklets to share at the event.  We’re did it together again this year.  See photographs below.

2017 was a year of two life-changing events (one emotional/spiritual, one physical) – both of which played a big part in my return to the playa. The latter was a serious leg injury (careful getting off that bus!) which seriously impacted my mobility around Black Rock City.  Not easy for a both-ends-burning man!   The former event I wrote about HERE.
The summer of 2018 seemed to offer recovery, a real renewal of energy and stamina – until weeks before the event some mysterious pinched nerve caused intense pain in the same leg. Treatments days before the trip helped a little, but the journey’s adventures were still marred with intense distracting discomfort.

“(Joseph) Campbell’s first requirement was that mythology must inspire awe in the universe. Modern America was built on biblical desert mythologies, even if most Americans would want to do anything but live in such an environment today. Standing in the middle of the Playa — the art-driven center of the camp — at 2 a.m., whipping yourself around to find a perfect circumference of lights, mutant vehicles and sound systems the size of midtown Manhattan clubs is, to say the least, awe-inspiring.”    >>>  The entire article, The Mythology of Burning Man, by Derek Beres, HERE.
